To be completely honest here, the grand majority of Ceri’s dates during this event were starting to blend together in her head. Too many people in too short of a time, only a few leaving a lasting impression in her mind. But, wasn't that kind of the point? To meet a whole bunch of people and see who stood out to her the most?

That’s the mentality with which she heads to meet her next date, and lo and behold, the man needs no introduction at all…

”Oh!” Her mouth does indeed form a perfect ‘o’, pointing at him in a way that would seem almost accusatory if it weren’t for the bright smile upon her lips. ”You’re the champion guy, right? kyle lopez! I’ve seen you on TV!”

A soft laugh leaves her then, taking a seat and allowing her lazy Toxel to rest on her lap.

”If I had known there’d be so many famous people here I would have dressed nicer.” Obviously, she’s not underdressed in the slightest, but this is just how Ceri is. ”I’m Ceri Glynn, by the way. It’s lovely to meet you!”

"i guess that's me." he hasn't watched the television for the longest time since the internet was just a better source of news for him.

gone were the days when there was a different champion to take the spotlight and him ranking as the least popular elite four. he misses those times of comparative anonymity somewhat.

small talk starts, which was an inevitable part of these kinds of events.

"eh. this is hoenn. weather's not really for those 'nicer' clothes. i would've come in a shirt and shorts if i was allowed." dress codes exist after all. "lovely to meet you too, ceri."

just like her, he's met a lot of people already that he ran out of unique greetings to say. subconsciously, he copies hers.

"depends on the function, really." maybe he'd do it on an aqua assembly, when he wouldn't be representing the league in front of civilians. "don't really want to be disrespectful to the organizers, y'know?"

maybe in the next league-hosted event he'd try it. he can't really see people reprimanding him about it with how passive they get.

prompted with the past dates, kyle ponders on the previous partners he's had. surprisingly enough, they had all been distinct, but similarities were still there.

"oh, i have no favorites," he says. "wait, actually, my favorite thing was getting out of those dates."

it was at this point kyle forgets that they should be talking about business.

"what about yours?"

Aren’t things like dress codes boring? Maybe Ceri should count herself lucky that Rocket isn’t strict about those things. Like, imagine if they had a uniform or something… Wouldn’t that be funny?

”Ah, that makes sense! That’s nice of you!”

It is, and it’s kind of what she would expect from a man in a position like his: to be considerate of event organisers and whatever else.

Kyle’s next comment, however, is not what she would have expected at all. In fact, it’s so surprising that it earns him a laugh on Ceri’s part.

”Aw, mean! I hope you don’t end up thinking that about this date…” She pouts, but it’s soon enough that that fades and her smile returns. ”I totally get it, though. There were a couple where I was really glad these things only last like five minutes.”

Of course, she doesn’t elaborate on that matter.

”But! I think it’s really fun, you know? Like… Meeting new people and stuff? You get to talk to some you may have never talked to otherwise… Like now!” A wink, a smile, the words and actions of an extrovert.

"true, perhaps," kyle agrees out of the statement being technically the truth.

"don't get me wrong, they're all nice people, but," kyle scratches his chin as he tries to word his thoughts in the friendliest way possible. "i'm not... really good at memorizing names."

it's moreso that he can't be bothered to learn the names and the faces of people he'd most likely only meet once, and then never again. it's a waste of effort, and kyle likes to be economical with his energy.

there's also the fact that he's expected to return the favor by social norms when the other party calls you by the name. only difference was that his name was advertised all over so it's heard by a hoenn citizen more than once their life, as opposed to him that might only hear it at this very instance.

it was at this point that kyle gets too conscious about the mood. not wanting to sour it, he immediately attempts to twist it in a better light.

"that mindset comes with the positives, i guess. i get to talk casually without fussing too much about making good impressions, i suppose. makes it a more fun, less fake, interaction, don't you think?"

Ceri tends to be the sort of person who keeps her negative comments to herself. She says sweet things, acts nice towards people, and very rarely has anything mean to say. So, when hearing Kyle’s response, she looks at him, and she stops herself from saying the obvious thing that crosses her mind at that very moment:

”Damn, the League’s PR team must have a horrible time with you…”
[break][break]
Instead of saying as much, she chuckles, tilting her head and offering Kyle a gentle smile, because honestly, there’s something amusing about knowing that this is what the champion is really like.

”That’s a good way to look at it! I bet it must be refreshing for you!”
[break][break]
Although a lot of people probably care about making a good impression with him, no? Good luck to those…

Before she can say anything else, the bell dings, indicating the end of their date.

”Oh. Guess that’s it! Good luck with your next date, Kyle! Hope it’s not too boring…Ceri, by the way. In case you already forgot!” She beams, obviously joking.

kyle just smiles. it wasn't refreshing since it's the usual thing for him, but he tries to remain positive despite wanting to get this event to end and for him to go home soon.

"i'll try not to forget," kyle responds as she makes a humorous jab.

he already forgot if she told him her surname or not. at least her given name was easy to remember since it sounds like that one character from the hit movie series for kids 'land prior to time'. fitting to be referenced given the time-space distortions happening.

with their five minutes over, kyle gets up and moves to his next seat for the next round.
